Rory Stewart Penrith and the Borders...Replacement Tory Toff !
by ian on November 4 2009

For a man that spends most of his time in the US, namedrops Princes Harry and William as friends, Supports the Taliban cause and has a very murky background within the ranks of the MI6 Stasi, Rory Stewart, The new Tory Toff for Penrith and the Borders, tells us he's the man!
So let's take a closer look at the man?
- Perthshire-raised Rory Stewart, whose family hails from Crieff, is being tipped for a winnable Conservative seat, possibly High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.
- On Sunday 25th October 2009, I was delighted to be selected through an open primary to be the Conservative Party's candidate for Penrith and The Border. I'm unbelievably happy and honoured to have this opportunity. This selection process and to be chosen as the candidate for such a beautiful constituency has been a life-changing experience for me. I'm very much looking forward to living in the constituency and getting to know everybody. I'm planning to rent a cottage on a working farm at Dufton so I can better understand the issues facing communities in Cumbria. I know farmers have had a tough deal from Westminster and have been hit hard in recent years by the foot and mouth outbreak, the BSE scare and now the economic downturn. Beyond agriculture, rural areas as a whole have been neglected under the labour Government. As your representative, I would work very hard to make sure that everything from post offices to bus stops are maintained in this constituency.
- The award-winning author and explorer recently asked a journalist: "Do you think I should be prime minister?"
- He has a privileged background: Eton, Balliol College, Oxford, and a stint as a tutor to Princes William and Harry.
- "I am a strong Unionist," he said. "I am a Scot who served in the British Army. My grandfather and father also served abroad for Britain with the same regiment."
- Mr Stewart called for the reduction of troops in Afghanistan last year.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: Briefly served as a second lieutenant in the Black Watch before university. 199799: Foreign Office. Worked in British embassy in Indonesia; British representative to Montenegro. (From Second Lieutenant to British Embassy Representative? see article: Rory Stewart - Liar, Conman, Torturer and failed Bracknell Candidate
- 2003-4: Appointed provisional governor of Maysan province, Iraq.
- Six months ago I wasnt even a member of the Conservative party
- Six Month's ago he wasn't even in Cumbria
"My friends and family predicted that I would soon be wrecked by some inevitable scandal before being spat out: bankrupt, frustrated, discredited and definitely still single."
My friend Tommy said: Its not like crossing Afghanistan. Id call the police if someone looking like you knocked on my door at night. No ones going to put you up. Youll probably be mugged on the first day. I'd stick to the Taliban.
